When the time came to teach my child how to count, I realized that most books: only went from 1 to 10, as if children will never count anything more than their fingers (do you have any idea how many cars my child has?); are very brand conscious (if the book is linked to a TV show, every character appears), or; are beautifully illustrated, but don’t explain to the child how numbers work.
I wanted a book that would teach him to: identify the number of objects in front of him; recognize the Arabic number that corresponds to the amount of objects; recognize the word that corresponds to the number of objects and the Arabic numeral. I also wanted a book that would: define the number zero; show how numbers are used in sequences, and; help practice skip counting.
In short, I wanted the best counting book for my child. So I made it!
Many counting books for children only go from 1 to 10. This one does much more. You will see a brief explanation of zero. You will count from 1 to 100, with an illustration for each number showing all the ways to get that sum using objects, numbers, and words. Next is a section for practicing skip counting to 100 by 2 through 10. (Skip counting by 10 is baked into the illustration of 100.) Finally, there is a section addressing how to say and write sequences, and how to recognize how they are written with words and numbers.
